Our assumption is that everyone wants to play to their strengths. This is how we engage with what we do best and discover the true extent of our abilities. So when we’re coaching we work with your talents, because these broaden our perceptions about you and build capacity for development. We have found that positive thinking is integral to flourishing, and predicts performance success. Of course a healthy dose of realism helps, so we spend a lot of time defining precise goals. Our emphasis is on what can be done, rather than what can’t. Our aim is to work together to clarify what is needed, how to make it happen and to then support our coachees in achieving it.

What do we do?

Using the principles of positive psychology, iOpener coaches to:

  • Use strengths to maximise potential
  • Encourage ambitious and realistic goals
  • Ask difficult questions in a supportive and facilitative environment
  • Listen
  • Challenge
  • Widen thinking
  • Break the old cycle and start a new one
  • Identify skills gaps
  • Identify skills development areas if needed
  • Support you whilst you put your plans into practice.

How do we do it?

  • Involving stakeholders
For a strategy to work and for results to be maintained, you need the support of the people who can make or break it. Therefore, when appropriate, we involve your manager and sometimes colleagues to ensure that all parties know what is expected and agreed.
  • Listening
We listen in much more depth than with typical conversations. We want to know what you excel at now, how you got here and where you want to progress to. When people are listened to in this way they often articulate important points, and deep insights about themselves emerge.
  • Questioning
We ask focused questions, encouraging you to address the right priorities and use un-tapped abilities.
  • Building trust
We work hard to understand you, so you are able to trust us when we challenge you to stretch your boundaries, set higher goals, re-think some old habits and believe you can make changes.
  • Developing
Knowing what you need to do isn’t enough. You need to pin down how you're going to do it, and this sometimes requires new skills. An iOpener coach will help you identify areas where you would benefit from specialist training (for example, in giving or receiving constructive feedback, or making yourself heard.) Your coach will give you expert one-to-one coaching in those areas.
  • Supporting
Your coach will be available throughout the programme to encourage you, keep you on track and build your confidence.

Who is it for?

Do you want to...

  • Learn new ways of working?
  • React differently to challenges?
  • Handle tough situations well?
  • Choose a new career?
  • Work towards a promotion?
  • Excel in a new role?
  • Respond positively to being told you need to change?
If you want to accomplish any of these steps, coaching could be the answer for you.
